With an interest in portraiture, between the years of 2013-2016 I began documenting friends and family on pieces of rubbish or items which would be otherwise thrown away. The purpose of this project was to acknowledge the ephemeral nature of human beings in contrast to rubbish that has the ability to outlive us, I.e. plastic waste, compressed building materials and offcuts, and to challenge the value we placed on “throw-away“ or single use items. Over time, the work became images of people experiences loss and burnout from grief on rubbish— capturing stoic stares when asked about their thoughts on the future— shifting the work towards my own experience of climate-grief.
When not working in portraiture I enjoy sketching the natural world and sculpting, and through my work as a puppet maker am skilled in sculpting in many mediums.
