Community Engagement
I have worked for a variety of clients to deliver high quality community engagement activities that encourage people to engage with the arts in new and exciting ways. For City of South Perth we constructed a Polar Bear, who could be fed memories which eventually became his fur, in memory of the polar bears once at the Perth Zoo. For WA Museum Boola Bardip we encouraged over 200 young people to make animals and plants out of rubbish to become part of an entry statement in the City Life section of the Museum, with information about how human activity impacts our fragile ecosystems. In Merredin, a regional town of about 2000 people, I have had the opportunity to train locals in projection mapping to create engaging historical walking tours, and design paste ups of endangered species to encourage conversations about conservation. My goal with any community engagement activity is to make sure the opportunity allows for the training of others artists, especially in regional areas where mentoring can be difficult to access.
